Student nurse threatens to commit suicide, claims she was unfairly dismissed from Gweru Provincial Hospital

A student nurse, Elain Madonho sent a message on  a WhatsApp chat group on Sunday threatening to commit suicide claiming that she was unfairly dismissed from Gweru Provincial Hospital’s nursing school.

Madondo was dismissed together with Sharon Ndiva, Ingrid Wombasha and Shumirai Mandiga on May 26 after appearing before a board that was set up by the Provincial Medical Director Dr Simon Nyandundu. They were accused of forging the signature of a supervisor at a clinic where they were attached, incompetence and insubordination after refusing to write a report. Hospital authorities who got in touch with Madondo’s mother who lives in Harare said that the mother claimed her daughter was at home.

In the WhatsApp message Madondo accused the board of nepotism and claimed that one of the matron’s daughters named Christabel was allowed to continue after falling pregnant and giving birth. She also said that a nurse called Muporeri was not dismissed even though she was involved in many fights. Ndiva said they were all going to appeal against the decision to expel them.
