ZEC awards BVR kits tender to Chinese Company

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has awarded the tender for the supply of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits for the 2018 elections to Laxton Group Limited from China. The company won the tender after submitting a lower proposal of US$3,9 million compared to Demalog Identification Systems of German which charged US$5,5 million.

Said ZEC chairpersons, Justice Rita Makarau:

Our team is negotiating the terms of contract of supply with a team from the selected supplier. Once the terms are agreed upon we will then advise on the dates of delivery and date of commencement of the registration exercise.

The voter registration for the 2018 harmonised elections will be done biometrically in an effort to eliminate ghost voters.
