Landlord in court for allegedly assaulting tenant over $30 ZESA bill

Justin Shoko (81) from Mberengwa allegedly assaulted his tenant Brenda Magore while attempting to evict her following a misunderstanding over a $30 ZESA bill.

Shoko pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Mberengwa resident Magistrate Mrs Evia Matura facing one count of assault and was remanded to June 5. The court heard that on May 12, a drunk Shoko arrived at his home and his tenant Magore was preparing supper in the kitchen. Shoko ordered Magore to leave the house since she had owed $30 for electricity. Magore refused to leave and Shoko allegedly assaulted her with fists and also slapped her several times.

Magore reported the matter to the police leading to Shoko’s arrest.
