2014 Tokwe Mukosi flooding victims to get $1,5million, govt still owes  $7.3 million

Masvingo provincial administrator Fungai Mbetsa has revealed that the government has released $1, 5 million which will be used to compensate 1, 995 families from Chigwizi transit camp. The floods also known as the Tokwe Mukosi Disaster occured in 2014 and displaced thousands. The government stills owes the victims $7,3 million.

Mbetsa said:

We received $1,5 miliion from the central government to compensate about 1 995 Chingwizi villagers.

A total of $7,5 million is outstanding what we received is 20% of that amount which is $750 each family and the money is being transferred directly into their bank accounts

Over 1 000 people evicted in Chivi to pave way for the newly constructed Tokwe-Mukosi dam are yet to receive compensation for their destroyed homes, property and livestock.
