Itai Johannes (28) of Beacon of Hope Academy in Epworth was sentenced to 2 years in prison after being convicted of fondling an 11 year old pupil. He will however serve a 12-month effective jail term after magistrate, Victoria Mashamba suspended the other 12 months on condition of good behaviour.
The court heard that Johannes called the pupil into his office on March 9 to inquire on why her fees was not being paid. While in his office Johannes allegedly touched the minors hands before fondling her breasts and promised to take good care of her. The pupil revealed the incident to her aunt who then reported the issue to the police leading to Johannes’ arrest.
