Senators oppose Dokora's directive to do away with SDCs

Senators Dorothy Khumalo (MDC) and Joyce Ndlovu have urged Government to align the Education Act with the Constitution and do away with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Lazarus Dokora’s directive to abolish School Development Committees (SDCs) and replace them with School Services Fund (SSF).

She argued that the replacement of SDCs with SSF will disadvantage parents since only Government officials would be the account’s signatories as opposed to SDCs where the head of the school, the deputy and the chairperson of the SDC and the deputy are signatories. Matabeleland South Senator Joyce Ndlovu supported Senator Khumalo saying with the new directive schools would not benefit much from their funds.
