Student nurses demonstrate over poor diet

On Friday, student nurses at Brunapeg Mission Hospital in Plumtree boycotted classes and demanded to have an audience with the the hospital’s top management accusing them of providing sub-standard meals comprising cabbages and soya meat, popularly known as chunks, although they were paying $100 monthly for their upkeep.

A student who spoke to NewsDay on condition  of anonymity said that they suspected that the money they were paying was being embezzled by the hospital’s top management. Another student appealed to relevant authorities in the ministry of health to come and assist them. However, Brunapeg Mission Hospital’s matron, who identified herself as Sister Anna, said the students should have approached her over the matter before going to the media. She also confirmed that the students pay $100 but explained that the money does not only go to food but covers other expenses.
