Kasukuwere grilled over land degradation caused by Chinese mining companies

Last week Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere was questioned in parliament over the land degradation caused by a Chinese mining company that is extracting sand from Karoi’s Badze River.

In response to Zanu-PF proportional representative legislator Goodluck Kwaramba who had asked what government was doing to resolve the conflict between Karoi residents and a Chinese firm, Kasukuwere acknowledged that the mining company was operating outside the provisions of the Environment Management Act. Kasukuwere was also asked by MDC-T proportional representative MP Thokozani Khupe on what action his ministry is taking to make sure that the Chinese company adheres to its social corporate responsibility. Kasukuwere also responded saying they are going to look into those issues.
