Executives from the Harare City City Councils have appeared in court facing charges of fraud involving $35 million. The executives who appeared in court are waste water manager Simon Muserere (47), water director Christopher Zvobgo (64) and former town clerk Tendai Mahachi. Apart from fraud, they are also facing charges of criminal abuse of office and corruptly concealing a personal interest in a transaction.
Muserere was granted $1 300 bail, while Zvobgo was granted $800 bail and Mahachi was granted $300 bail by Harare Magistrate Barbara Chimboza.
It is alleged that Mahachi, Zvobgo, and Muserere smuggled unregistered companies for the award of the contract for the upgrading and rehabilitating of the sewer plant at Firle and Crowborough in Harare. Muserere and Zvobgo hand picked Energy Resources Africa Consortium (ERAC) for a contract valued at $13 816 117, 10.
