Tauya Muzivi Mushangwe (34) a Central Intelligence Organisation officer and his friend Arnold Moses Ojesi (36) were arrested for demanding a $1200 bribe from an NGO. The two appeared before magistrate Barbra Chimboza facing extortion charges. They were remanded to the 8th of June on $100 bail each.
According to the state, country director of Regional Psychological Support Initiative (REPSSI), Sibusisiwe Marunda wanted to launch a project to cater for deprived children in Mashonaland West. Mushangwe allegedly approached Marunda informing her that REPSSI was not eligible to carry out the project in Chinhoyi. He demanded $1200 in order to recommend the project. He was arrested together with Ojesi after they received money which had been marked by the police, when Marunda had reported the case.
