CAPS ordered to recall 4Cs cough syrup due to suspected contamination

The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has ordered CAPS Pharmaceuticals to recall from the market 170 000 units of 4Cs cough syrup which is suspected to be contaminated with black materials concentrated inside the screw cap.

Three batches were recalled last week with the number rising to six batches at the end of the week. An email sent to wholesalers and retailers by CAPS reads:

We have been directed by MCAZ to issue a Class II product recall on 4Cs batches 002016, 001116 and 003017 due to suspected with black material concentrated around the screw cap.

In a letter dated 3 May, 2017, CAPS quality assurance manager Pasipanodya Nyamangara advised the market that the number of suspected contaminated batches had risen to include batches 002106, 003096 and 004017.
