Man drowns while attempting to take a selfie

Tichawona Nyamande (26) of Bulawayo fell and drowned in the Maleme Dam inside Matopo National Park while attempting to take a selfie with the water as his background. He allegedly slipped on some rocks and fell into the water. However, he lost consciousness after he hit his head on some rocks. One of his friends tried to rescue him but he also slipped on the rocks while dragging Tichawona’s body and they both fell back into the dam. It is reported that no one came to their aid as the other friends were busy filming the attempted rescue effort.

When the two fell back into the dam, the friend was too exhausted to drag Tichawona’s body and almost drowned himself. After managing to save himself, the friends filed a police report at Matopo Police Station and Tichawona’s body was retrieved by the police sub aqua team the next day.
