Govt wants Mbada Diamonds to be removed from Chiadzwa

The Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has approached the High Court seeking the removal of Mbada Diamonds from Chiadzwa in Marange.

In summons issued in March 2017, ZCDC said that it has a special grant from the Ministry of Mines but has not been able to carry out an operations because Mbada Diamonds occupying part of the area illegally. ZCDC also said that it successfully appealed against the interdiction barring them from interfering with Mbada’s operations hence the current application for ejectment.

ZCDC also points out that Mbada sold its assets therefore there is no need for its security personnel to remain at the site. However, Mbada filed a response arguing the issue of a special mining grant which was issued by the Secretary for Mines “constituted an element of the unlawful spoliation” and, thus, was covered by the order of the High Court. The matter is still pending.
