EcoCash agent loses over $3000 to bogus Minister

Aleck Kalasawo who works as an EcoCash agent lost over $3 000 to a Harare couple in an elaborate fraud, where the husband posed as a Cabinet Minister. The wife, Daisy Hazvinavarwi, sweet talked Kalasawo into lending her $3 208 after she claimed that she had imported a car for a minister and needed money for exercise duty. She claimed that the minister was only willing to pay for the vehicle on delivery.

To reassure Kalaawo she took him to meet her husband Tawanda Major (36) who pretended to be a cabinet minister. Major indicated that he had the cash for the vehicle but was only willing to pay on delivery. After transferring the money, he never saw the two again. This lead his employer Enia Dafana to file a police report.

Tawanda Major was arrested and appeared before magistrate Ms Barbara Chimboza charged with fraud yesterday. He was remanded to the 22nd of May.
