Mutsvangwa bars Matemadanda and Mahiya from speaking for war veterans

Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) chairperson Christopher Mutsvangwa yesterday barred his colleagues and subordinates from speaking to the media on behalf of the ZNLWA. This comes after Victor Matemadanda made a statement to the private media in which he reminded Zimbabwe Defence Force commander General Constantino Chiwenga that in a democratic country, citizens are free to air their grievance. He also said that he would not be silenced saying that only those who were benefitting from the present system wanted to silence any dissent. General Chiwenga had warned “nobodies” in the war veterans to stop attacking the President after Douglas Mahiya had said that the war veterans are not interested in a Mugabe dynasty.

Said Mutsvangwa yesterday,

The chair has spoken. I am the final word and that is the position of the association.

Mahiya had the opportunity to correct himself because I talked to him.

Matemadanda was in Gokwe and I was unable to talk to him. He was not on the same page with others and was, therefore, out of touch. You may talk to him now.
