Magistrate expected to deliver judgement on Zanu PF chairperson accused of raping 12 year old

On May 5, 2017, Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire is expected to deliver his verdict in a case where Zanu-PF chairperson for Lalapanzi district, Nyasha Nyesvu (59), is being accused of ambushing and raping a 12-year-old girl who was on her way to school.

The court heard that on September 8, 2016 at around 12pm, the girl was on her way to a local school when she met the Nyesvu in a bushy area before he allegedly dragged her to a secluded place where he raped her once. Nyesvu gave the complainant some sweets before threatening to kill her with a knife if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

The girl, however, later narrated the incident to her aunt after the being asked where she got the sweets in her possession. Nyesvu was arrested after the complainant’s aunt reported the issue to the police.
