NewsDay says Dokora's suggestion that goats be used for fees "drags Zim to stone age"

NewsDay says the recent statement by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora that parents in rural areas can use livestock to pay school fees for their children is hilarious and has made other countries look at Zimbabwe with scorn.

In the article NewsDay asks where the school will keep the livestock that parents would have used to pay fees which in turn will mean the school will spend more taking care of the goats. The article also questions issues to do with accountability and transparency and gives an example where a teacher or senior authority deviates the livestock to their own kraal and declare that the livestock has gone missing.

The article states that Dokora’s suggestion borrows from the Stone Age where barter trade was used. NewsDay questions Dokora’s suggestion as parents have always sold their livestock in the past to raise school fees.
