Anna Nelson (59), Naison Nelson (39) and Fazile Makeleni from Overspill area in Epworth appeared before Harare Magistrate Barbra Chimboza after allegedly murdering Obey Murenge who failed to pay a $6 debt after buying kachasu. The trio was remanded in custody pending their indictment.
The court heard that the late Murenge in January 2016 took some kachasu from Anna Nelson but failed to pay the debt as per agreement. In June, Murenge returned to Nelson who asked for her money but Murenge said he had not raised the money yet. He then went on to offer his torn shoes which he said could be resold to raise money to cover the debt. This did not go down well with Anna who summoned Naison and began beating Murenge with a blunt weapon. The court heard Makeleni joined in assaulting Murenge who sustained head injuries. After the assault Murenge went home but his condition deteriorated. He revealed the incident to his father who took him to Parirenyatwa hospital where he was admitted until July 5 when he died.
