No debt cancellation: Kasukuwere warns defaulting residents
The city of Harare has complained that residents are not paying their bills in the hope that the government will direct the local authorities to cancel all debts ahead of the 2018 elections. This happened in 2013 when then MiMinisterf Local Government Ignatius Chombo directed all local athorities to write off debts owed by rate payers between 2009 and 2013.
However, current Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has rejected another government amnesty for people not paying their bills. Said Kasukuwere
…he law is the law until it is changed.
FeedbackPayment of bills is a legal obligation and we are constitutional democracy.
