Mr Puluko Moyo of Gwanda is suing Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) for $20 000 following unlawful arrest and detention over stocktheft charges.
Through his lawyers, Samp Mlaudzi and partners, Moyo filed summons at the Bulawayo High Court citing Chombo, ZRP Commissioner Augustine Chihuri, Inspector Zhakari and Constables Chengera and Nhandu as defendants. He wants $20 000 as damages for deprivation of liberty, loss of self esteem, inconvenience, discomfort, anguish and humiliation while detained in police cells. Moyo says he suffered public humiliation when he was taken to Donnington Police Station where he was detained and paraded in handcuffs for 8 hours from 11 am to 7 pm before being transferred to Gwanda Police Station where he was released the next day without any charge.
Moyo who is a businessman who buys and sells cattle says the arrest has negatively affected his business and reputation.
