Acie Lumumba arrested at Magistrate’s Court for defaulting court

Former Zanu-PF activist William “Acie Lumumba” Mutumanje, was arrested at the Harare Magistrates’ Court yesterday for defaulting court. He is facing forgery allegations. He was taken to Southerton Police Station and is expected to appear in court today.

Lumumba had earlier on appeared before magistrate Barbara Chimboza accompanied by David Hofisi, from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. He successfully applied for the cancellation of the other warrant of arrest over a case he is accused of insulting President Robert Mugabe during the launch of his party, Viva Zimbabwe, last year.

Lumumba’s lawyer Advocate Webster Chinamhora blamed the clerk for bringing inadequate records before Magistrate Chimboza. The records were supposed to explain the reasons for defaulting court.

Said Chinamhora:

The records were supposed to be brought to court for the cancellation of the two warrants as the reasons were the same and I don’t know why the clerk of court decided to release only one record.
