Thobani Ncube, the Bulawayo Ward 23 councillor was convicted of fraud after he sold a stand to two people. He defrauded Ms Vainah Moyo (54) of Barham Green suburb of $12 000 after he sold her a stand he had already sold to Mvangeli Xaba. Ncube was convicted by Western Commonage magistrate Ms Nyaradzo Ringisayi despite his plea of not guilty. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced today.

In his defence, Ncube argued that after he had reached a verbal agreement with Moyo, a few months later they failed to understand each other and decided to cancel the agreement. However, the state was able to show that despite this claim, Ncube continued accepting payments three months after the time he claimed the agreement had been called off.
