Zim woman jailed in UK after crashing her car while drinking Vodka with 20-month-old son in the back

Tania Chikwature (32) who is based in the United Kingdom (UK) was sentenced to 12 weeks for driving with excess alcohol, and 26 weeks for dangerous driving, to be served concurrently when she appeared before District Judge Ken Sheraton at Peterborough Magistrates’ court. She was also banned from driving for three years on each count, and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge after she admitted to all charges.

Chikwature crashed her Nissan Qashqai while drinking from a bottle of vodka behind the wheel with her 20-month-old son in the back has been jailed. Her young son was shaken but was not seriously injured in the accident. The incident took place on the A605 near the Haddon services in Peterborough.

Prosecuting, Soanders-Silk said Chikwature was driving from her home in Coventry to Peterborough on December 12 for a wake when her car hit the central reservation before smashing into the roundabout and flew 12 to 14 feet in the air after she crossed double white lines in the road, which indicated there should be no overtaking. Blood samples taken from Chikwature after the crash showed her alcohol level would have been at 246mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood which is more than three times the legal limit of 80mg in 100ml of blood.
