High Court relaxes Pastor Evan Mawarire’s bail conditions

This Flag Movement coordinator and cleric Evan Mawarire’s bail conditions were relaxed today by the High Court.

In an announcement on his official Twitter account Mawarire announced that he will now be reporting once a fortnight (2 weeks) at Avondale Police Station, instead of twice a week. He also mentioned that he got his passport temporarily until 21 April 2017.

In February this year, Mawarire who was represented by Harrison Nkomo and Jeremiah Bamu of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, was granted $300 bail by Justice Clement Phiri of the Harare High Court following his arrest on his return to Harare after 6 months in exile.  Mawarire left the country after he was arrested for subverting a constitutionally elected government.  After his arrest at the airport, Mawarire was charged under the same section for the second time.
