Insurance form loses $11 000 as doctor and mortuary attendant connive to certify deaths of live people

A Mvurwi based doctor is on the run after allegedly certifying the deaths of 5 live people in a life insurance scam. His three accomplices appeared in court.

Paul Jayaguru (35) and his wife Dorothy Dulula (35) allegedly opened funeral policies while Chrispen Mumba (40) a mortuary attendant at Mvurwi Hospital allegedly created BD 11 Forms indicating that a body was at the mortuary. The doctor then certified the deaths without seeing the bodies of the deceased. Dulula would then claim the insurance money using the fake death certificates and burial orders. The scam ran from April 2013 and only came to light in February of this year after Heritage Life Limited’s loss control officer Mr Charles Chirove approached the Registrar-General’s Office in Concession to verify the burial orders. He discovered that 5 people who were alleged to be dead were alive and living in Gweru
