Zanu PF youth leader jailed for faking ex-chairperson’s death granted bail after cellmates attempt to sodomise him

Zanu-PF Bulawayo Provincial Youth Deputy Commissar Tichaona Chikwava (33) allegedly fought his cellmates for 5 hours at Bulawayo Prisons after they tried to sodomise him. Chikwava is said to have sustained injuries on his face.

On Friday last week his lawyer, Mr Dumisani Dube of Mathonsi, Ncube Law Chambers appeared before magistrate Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi pleading with the court to give Chikwava $100 bail pending appeal. Dube said the court must consider substituting a custodial sentence by ordering Chikwava to perform community service. The magistrate granted Chikwava $100 bail and ordered him to surrender his travel documents to the clerk of court and to report to Mzilikazi police station once a week.

Chikwava and Blessed Mushandu faked Mr Khumbulani Mpofu’s death in order to get a donation from Zanu-PF. He was arrested while waiting to be given the money and was sentenced to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty. His partner, Mushandu is still on the run having disappeared on their way to Donnington police station.
