Bulawayo City Council makes over $200 000 from selling burial space

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) made more than $200 000 from selling burial space at local cemeteries where 4 709 bodies were buried last year.

Of the people buried at the cemeteries, 1 233 were children under the age of 12. Responding to The Chronicle’s questions, BCC senior public relations officer Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said council offered 168 people pauper burials. She said council made $206 029 from selling burial space with council charging $47 for adults and $41 for children. She said that council will now start maintaining graves that had collapsed due to heavy rains.
