Some private colleges not implementing the new education curriculum saying it's too costly

Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister, Paul Mavhima has revealed that some independent private colleges have resisted implementing the new education curriculum due to a number of challenges, which include space and resource constraints. Mavhima said the government was going to clamp down on these institutions. Some of the colleges have abandoned Zimsec and opted for Cambridge International Examinations.

One of the Principals who spoke to the Financial Gazette said:

This poses challenges because we do not have adequate facilities to accommodate these students. Some of the subjects require space and most independent colleges are located in city centres so it will be difficult to implement the new curriculum

Deputy Minister Mavhima said:

...there are some registered independent colleges that, for one reason or the other, are not implementing the new curriculum, but recruiting trained teachers.
