A source told SportBrief that ZIFA president, Dr Phillip Chiyangwa, has paid $500 to keep former Premier Soccer League chairperson Twine Phiri from going to jail.
Phiri was on Wednesday sentenced to four months in prison for defaulting on close to $5 000 in maintenance fees. Harare magistrate Miss Joy Chikodzore suspended the sentence for five years on condition that he pays $500 and deposits $1 226 into his ex-wife Keresiya Phiri’s bank account. However, the former PSL chairman could not raise that money as per court order, prompting the court to issue an arrest order. Had it not been for Chiyangwa who quickly came to his rescue, Phiri could have been in jail right now.
Said the Source:
PC ndovazouya kuzobailer out Twine after he was ordered to pay 500 forthwith. Had he not paid the money he could have been in remand prison right now. So PC came to the rescue.
Chiyangwa could neither deny nor confirm the reports upon being questioned by SportBrief.
