President Robert Mugabe has appointed Deputy Chief Justice Luke Malaba as Chief Justice-designate with immediate effect. Malaba will be sworn in next week as the Chief Justice as he is out of the country on a Foreign Affairs trip.
The President’s spokesperson, Mr George Charamba confirmed the development last night and said Malaba was appointed with immediate effect. Malaba had been the acting Chief Justice since March 1 following the retirement of Godfrey Chidyausiku. During the Chief Justice interviews in December last year, Malaba had scored 92% while Judicial Services Commission acting secretary Rita Makarau scored 90% and Justice Paddington Garwe came third with 52%.
