Harare's deputy mayor Chris Mbanga resigns
Harare Mayor Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni has confirmed the resignation of Councillor Chris Mbanga as deputy mayor, saying their working relationship was no longer healthy since the mayor’s suspension last year.
In June 2016 Mbanga was suspended by MDC-T while he was acting Harare mayor, accusing him of conniving with Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere to defy the opposition’s directives at Town House. Mbanga was being accused of refusing to recognise the appointment of James Mushore as town clerk and causing the suspension of mayor Bernard Manyenyeni.
Speaking to Star FM News Harare Residents Trust Director Mr Precious Shumba said Councillor Mbanga resigned because he wanted to make peace with the mayor and the rest of the councillors as their conflicts were long standing.
