At least 23 people including 18 from Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party (NPP) were injured when the vehicle they were traveling in crushed into a tree after failing to stop at an intersection in Chinhoyi. Doctor Samuel Mvurume who stopped to assist the injured also got hit by another vehicle which broke his legs.
As people gathered and motorists stopped to give assistance, a truck towing another truck failed to stop and rammed into cars parked along the road injuring more people. The injured were rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital while others were taken to Harare for further treatment. A member of the NPP who spoke to The Herald said the kombi was carrying people to Sanyati from Alaska where elections to choose a provincial executive had been held.
