Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province Youth Deputy Commissar, Tichaona Chikwava (33) was sentenced to 12 months in prison for faking the death of former provincial chairperson Mr Khumbulani Mpofu and asking the party for a $1 000 donation. Chikwava faked the death with Blessed Mushandu who is on the run.

The court heard that the police ambushed Chikwava and Mushandu while they were waiting at Zanu PF offices to be given the money on Wednesday. However Mushandu escaped on their way to Donnington Police Station. Chikwava was convicted by provincial magistrate Mr Felix Mkhwananzi after pleading guilty. He said he desperately needed the money. Mkhwananzi sentenced Chikwava to 12 months in prison but suspended 4 months on condition that Chikwava does not commit a similar crime in the next 5 years.
