President Commissions $82 Million PPC plant in Msasa

President Robert Mugabe today commissioned the $82 million Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) plant in in Msasa Harare. The plant will produce 700 000 tons of cement per year and create employment, although the plant will generate less than 100 jobs directly. The other jobs will be created downstream.

According to PPC Chairman Todd Moyo, the new plant shows that PPC is committed to Zimbabwe and will continue investing in the country. He also said that the new plant has raised the company’s production capacity to 1.8 million tonnes per year.

President Mugabe said that the company had a great safety record as no people were injured or killed during the construction of the new plant. He also praised the company for complying with the indigenisation laws saying that it was proof that the country’s laws were not a hindrance to Foreign Direct Investment. The President also revealed that PPC had paid $200 000 into the Community Share Owenership Trust in 2016.
