Chiyangwa in hot soup as Caf says he must face disciplinary committee

Zifa and Cosafa President Phillip Chiyangwa is in a spot of bother as the Caf Executive Committee yesterday referred his case to the Caf Disciplinary Committee. This comes after Chiyangwa has been a vocal critic of Caf President Issa Hayatou who will be facing the greatest threat to his reign tomorrow in the CAF Presidential election. Chiyangwa has backed Hayatou’s opponent Ahmad Ahmad and is acting as his campaign manager. Chiyangwa has also threatened to sue Hayatou and Caf Secretary General Hicham Al-Amrani.

Chiyangwa has been accused of insulting the Caf President as well as its executive committee after holding what Caf is terming an “illegal meeting”  which was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Part of the Caf statement released yesterday reads:

The CAF Executive Committee unanimously recommended the CAF Disciplinary Board to proceed with the case of COSAFA President, also President of the Federation of Zimbabwe, Mr. Philip Chiyangwa who has multiplied actions and statements recently that appears to attack the honour of the CAF, its president and the members of the Executive Committee.

Chiyangwa may get a reprieve if Hayatou loses tomorrow’s election.
