Mujuru accused of lying to the world during HardTalk interview about her family wealth

Former Vice President and opposition party leader, Dr Joice Mujuru is being accused by The Herald of lying during  a recent HardTalk interview that her only assets are her farm and Chispite home in Harare.

When asked about her wealth Mujuru said:

I only have a house. I only have a farm which I am still now negotiating with the owner and to tell you the truth I am very free to take everything down and Zimbabweans will know who I am because I am not a very rich person.

However The Herald reports that the Mujurus own a vast business empire running into billions of dollars. The Herald claims that documents that have been in their possession since 2015 show that Mujuru had interests in duty-free shops at the Harare International Airport trading under the name International Travel Shops Africa (Pvt) Ltd with Tirivanhu Mudariki as director, along with her daughter Nyasha De Campo (nee Mujuru), two Kenyans: Mukesh Vaya and Nilesh Ashkal Kantil, as well as Babu RM a citizen of India. The publication argues that though Mujuru’s name is not listed among the directors it features prominently in the documents.

The Herald states that Mujuru’s late husband owned the following properties: Stand 95 and 96, Hogerty Hill Township 3 of Hogerty Hill A, Stand 810 Marandellas Township, Remainder of Sebastopol in Goromonzi, Stand 9 Tara Township of Tara of Sebastopol as well as land in Greendale and Chispite. He is believed to have owned shares in various companies such as River Ranch Limited, Zimbabwe Motor Assemblers and Distributors (Pvt) Ltd, Zimbabwe Sun Limited and Ruwa Golf Properties among many others.
