Man in court for diverting water from Zinwa main pipeline

Isaac Sithole of Macheke appeared before Marondera magistrate Arnold Maburo facing charges of prejudicing Zinwa of nearly $9 000.  Sithole allegedly connected a polyethene pipe to a valve on the main pipeline which carried water from Macheke Dam to the purification plant. The pipe was connected to a man-made storage tank, and Sithole would allegedly divert water to this tank by unlocking the valve on the main pipeline. According to the parastatal, it lost 37 0362 cubic metres of water worth $8 887, 68.

Sithole was caught red handed unlocking the valve after Zinwa employees had noticed that water was not reaching the plant. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the 13th of March.
