During a debate on Wednesday in Parliament, Zanu PF Manicaland senator Judith Mawire proposed that President Robert Mugabe must be allowed to rule for life in recognition of his role in the liberation of Zimbabwe.
Mawire was contributing after a motion by Midlands senator Lillian Timveous which called for the alignment of the Electoral Act to the Constitution to ensure the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s mandate is strengthened. Said Mawire:
Mugabe must be life president because he freed all women who are now empowered and are free to do anything in this country.
However Mawire’s suggestion had no supporters as other senators continued to debate the motion.
