Strive Masiyiwa comments on reports that he will lead coalition to challenge Mugabe in 2018

Strive Masiyiwa has commented on claims that he will lead a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Robert Mugabe in next year’s elections. Responding to questions from The Standard, through his office in South Africa yesterday, he said he was not interested in the debate about his candidature.

Said Masiyiwa:

Mr Masiyiwa left Zimbabwe on the 22nd March 2000 [17 years ago],  and has not been in the country since. He does not follow or even read what is written about him in the local press. If you study election cycles in Zimbabwe over the last 20 years, you will find the same pattern; fabrications, speculations, and fake news. He does not comment, and life goes on until the next election cycle.

The latest allegations by State media were that Masiyiwa could be roped into a new party spearheaded by war veterans leader Christopher Mutsvangwa.
