Delight Chimedza (32) who is employed by the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) as an accounts clerk, is being accused of taking identity documents of Kurai Dzingirai and Eddar Chimutsa and using them to open bank accounts where he would prompt NSSA to transfer pension funds. As a result Chimedza reportedly diverted $8 965 from Dzingirai and Chimutsa and used part of the money to buy a Honda Fit.
He appeared before Harare Magistrate Ms Barbra Chimboza facing fraud charges and was remanded to 4 April on $200 bail. The State alleges that between January 15 and February 5 this year, Chimedza kept pensioner claim forms in his office and Dzingirai claimed his pension. Chimedza allegedly checked Dzingirai’s forms and noticed that Dzingirai’s pension had been processed and he accessed Dzingirai’s identity particulars before opening a Steward Bank account in Dzingirai’s name.
It is alleged that Chimedza claimed that Dzingirai had directed that his pension be transferred into the Steward Bank account he had created and not the POSB one he had supplied. Acting on the misrepresentation NSSA transferred $4 540 into the Steward Bank account. Chimedza used the same method to divert Chimutsa’s pension.
