Harare businessman Wicknell Chivayo handed himself in to Harare Central Police Station upon his return from London in the company of his lawyers Advocate Thabani Mpofu and Advocate Sylvester Hashiti. Chivayo is accused of insulting Sunday Mail Features and Opinions Editor Garikai Mazara. He however denied Mazara’s claims before signing a warned and cautioned statement and being discharged.
Speaking to The Herald, Chivayo said he nothing against Mazara. The matter was reported under case number CR 2604/2/2017 at Harare Central Police Station last week. Reports are that Mazara was insulted by Chivayo after he sent messages inquiring on the progress of the Gwanda national solar project that his company Intratek is supposed to be implementing. In some WhatsApp messages, Chivayo insinuated that Mazara was HIV positive judging from his profile picture. The Herald claims some of the messages contain vulgar language.
