The People’s Democratic Party has slammed Minister of Finance and Economic Development Patrick Chinamasa and called for him to resign for the good of the country. The Tendai Biti led opposition party described the finance minister as “currently the worst finance minister in Africa.” This follows the government’s decision to pay civil servants $180 million for their 2016 bonus payments. The amount was not budgeted for in the 2017 National Budget. The government is also deducting money for pension contributions without remitting the money to NSSA.
In a statement PDP spokesperson Jacob Mafume said:
As we have said in our previous statements the government has been stealing from workers by deducting that which they did not remit, the move by Chinamasa vindicates our claim

The purported settlement of NSSA arrears is further coupled by the announced payment of bonuses which government should have paid under the budget of the previous year.
