Government agrees to pay 2016 bonuses in cash, payments to be spread over 5 months

The government has agreed to pay the 2016 bonuses for civil servants in cash after the workers refused to be paid in residential stands. The government announced that the payments will be spread over 5 months with the first payments scheduled for April. This follows a meeting with civil servants who were threatening to go on strike.

The government through the Ministry of Finance will need to find $180 million for the bonus payments. Civil servants working in the defence and health sectors will be the first to receive their bonuses in April.

The schedule is as follows:

End of April:   Defence and Health
End of May:    Police and Prison Services
End of June:  Teachers
End of August:  Rest of civil services

We will update with more details
