President Robert Mugabe is back in Zimbabwe from Singapore where he had, according to State media reports, gone for a medical check up.
However private media reports state that the First Lady flew out on Monday to organise a charter flight from Dubai as Mugabe was reportedly unable to use Air Zimbabwe. NewsDay’s editor Wisdom Mdzungairi and senior reporter Richard Chidza were arrested for covering the story. They were charged with breaching section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, undermining, insulting or ridiculing the President.
However, the trio were released around 1600hours into the custody of their lawyer, Obey Shava of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, and were expected to appear in court on Saturday or on Monday.
