Mphoko rules out digging up & reburying Gukukurahundi victims

Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has ruled out the digging up mass graves of people who died the Gukurahundi atrocities saying doing so was foreign.

Mphoko who is also Minister of National Healing and Reconciliation said the Peace and Reconciliation Bill was in place and would be tabled in Parliament. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday Mphoko said:

We cannot go to the mass graves and start digging. It’s not in our African culture. What we are only going to do is put a big plaque which will indicate that there are people who were buried there. Those with bones that are visible by the grave site, we will take the bones and rebury them properly. It will be done within the law.

He also said that Government will be dealing with the issue of National identity documents and mass graves.
