Midwives join doctors and nurses' strike

Midwives at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals  have joined nurses and doctors who are on strike. In a letter to the Principal Nursing Officer, the midwives say that they will not be able to continue carrying out their duties and list three issues they want addressed. The reasons for the withdrawal of services are:

1. We are overwhelmed with a continuous inflow of patients due to other hospitals not functioning doing both Doctors and Midwives duties.
2. An upward review of night duty allowance, risk allowance and grading system.
3. Nurses who have finished training are at home.

They state that “Midwives are working under stressful conditions with little resources. The situation is no longer bearable for us and the patients.
