Afghanistan beats Zimbabwe to clinch ODI series

Afghanistan beat Zimbabwe by 106 runs in the fifth and final One-Day International at the Harare Sports Club to seal the series. After posting 253, the visitors bowled out Zimbabwe for 54, which is the ninth-lowest total in ODI cricket. Due to a lengthy rain delay after Afghanistan’s innings, Zimbabwe were given a revised target of 161 in just 22 overs.

Needing more than seven runs an over, the hosts were expected to be positive right from the start, which eventually led to their heavy defeat. Dawlat Zadran got the wicket of Peter Moor in the second over. Amir Hamza then picked up three wickets in his first two overs to leave Zimbabwe at 13 for 4 after just five overs. Losing Craig Ervine and Sean Williams in the same over effectively ended Zimbabwe’s hopes of completing a comeback. After losing the first two ODIs, Zimbabwe had won the next two to level the series 2-2.
