Pastor Evan Mawarire back in court today

Pastor Evan Mawarire who is out on bail is back at Harare Magistrates court today where he is expected start his trial where he is being charged with Subversion of a constitutionally elected government for organising protests in Zimbabwe and in New York.  You can read his warned and cautioned statement on these charges here. He is also charged with  Insulting the national flag to brand criminal activities and  Wearing the flag while subverting the government.  You can read his statement on those charges here.

Pastor Evan Mawarire was granted bail by Justice Clement Phiri of the Harare High Court.  In his ruling Justice Phiri said in his view the evidence submitted by the state was very weak and granted  Pastor Evan was granted $300 bail.  He also has to surrender his passport and report twice a week at Avondale Police Station, on Mondays and Fridays. Mawarire was represented by Harrison Nkomo and Jeremiah Bamu of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.
