Dokora admits that 6 out of 9 teachers dont know the new curriculum, claims that S.A. want to write Zimsec exams

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Lazarus Dokora has admitted that most teachers in Zimbabwe are in the dark about the new curriculum.  Dokora said out of 9 primary school teachers, 6 of them did not know the new curriculum. This means that only 33 percent of Primary School teachers know the new curriculum, despite the curriculum having been already implemented.  The minister revealed this at a breakfast meeting today.

The new education curriculum was introduced at the beginning of the term although it has been roundly criticised by teachers and former education minister David Coltart for the way it was pushed through. Critics claim that the curriculum was pushed through without adequate consultation. They also criticised the ministry for introducing a resource heavy curriculum without taking into account the state of schools or the country’s economy.

Despite this, Dokora claimed that South Africa wants to send its students to Zimbabwe to learn about our new curriculum. The Minister added that South Africa wants its students to write ZIMSEC students.

In wrapping up the meeting, Dokora quoted President Robert  Mugabe saying:

…by its very nature, education is a multi stakeholder activity.  The current reforms in the education sector provide huge opportunities for strengthening parental involvement in the accountabilkities in the education system.
