Police disturbed by increase in armed robberies

National Police Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Charity Charamba said that the increase in armed robberies in homes, service stations, business premises and along highways was worrying.

Said Charamba:

These robbers are targeting places where they know a large sums of money are being kept. They carry out surveillance before pouncing on their intended victims. For example on February 7 at around 11 PM, three male adults who were wearing masks approached fuel attendants at Zuva Service Station in Pumula North suburb in Bulawayo and produced pistols. They threatened three fuel attendants who were on duty and forcibly took away cash and cellphones.

Charamba also revealed that Sakunda Service Station in Chitungwiza was also robbed on February 8 at 2 AM by six male adults who blew up a safe and got away with $3 398. On the same day at around 9 PM, two men attacked a shopkeeper at Pangolin Business Centre in Masvingo but failed to rob him after he fought back. Charamba alsio urged members of the public not to keep large sums of money in their homes, business premises and cars to avoid being robbed.
